Liturgy of the Word for Children

This early practice of children listening to and reflecting on the Gospel message in an age-appropriate way fosters a habit that will support the child’s faith development throughout their life.

At various times throughout the year children will be called forward at Mass for a special Liturgy of the Word specifically geared towards a child’s understanding. An adult catechist will lead the group of children out of Mass to proclaim the Gospel to them and “break open” its meaning in a way children can better comprehend and apply to their life. Children will then be led back to the main liturgical celebration to rejoin their family after the priest's homily. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is intended for children in pre-k through third grade, though older children are welcome to attend as well.
