Service & Outreach

"Amen I say to you, whatever you did for the one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."
Matthew 25:40

The Christian Service and Outreach Committee focuses parishioners on justice and charity issues through prayer, action, and education. This committee coordinates outreach efforts, monitors and distributes tithe funds, and sponsors events to build awareness in the Parish.

Some of the local community organizations that we support

We work with the Lake Township area FISH program to assist those with food or other emergency assistance in our area. laketownshipfish.org

We support the Hartville Migrant Workers Ministry with our time, talents, and donations.  Some of the ways our parish helps include organizing activities with the children, acting as interpreters for the Hispanic community, and painting and repairing the center. Our parish is responsible for preparing the children and families to receive first communion, confirmation and baptism.  hartvillemigrantministry.org

Through numerous programs we support our local Catholic Charities in supporting those who need our help. Catholic Charities - Stark and Portage County

We work alongside others in the community to support Love Our Community, which provides emergency and transiitional housing, summer meals, clothing and other services to those in crises and need in Lake Township. loveourcommunity.net

Opportunities to serve others in need

St. Bernard's Hot Meals Program

"Whatever you do for the least of these you do to me..." Matt. 25: 45  Christ sent us to serve those in our midst and one place we serve regularly is in the Hunger program at St. Bernard's in downtown Akron. Hot meals are served on the third, fourth and fifth Sundays and Wednesdays of each month. Holy Spirit is assigned certain dates to provide the volunteers (high school students & above with parents), usually about 15. We need to be at St. Bernard's 3:30 - 4 pm; the meal is served at 5:00 pm and clean up continues until 6:30 pm. Sometimes, Holy Spirit volunteers meet in the Holy Spirit parking lot to car pool but any volunteer can just meet at St. Bernard's. If you would like to help, please sign the sheet on the wood table by the doors of the church.

Mission Program

Each year students (8th grade & above) and adults have the opportunity to participate in the mission program to expand their understanding of serving others. Students and adults enter the program in the fall/winter and prepare for immersion experiences to Kentucky or other locations the following summer. Preparation includes formation gatherings, fundraising, local service projects, and service to the parish.

Holy Spirit Food Pantry

Each month we ask for donations of different food items to supply our food pantry which is located along our exit drive. Volunteers are sometimes needed to sort the food for this ministry.
